“I’ve lost 40 pounds and my students see that eating right matters.”

Program/Sponsor: Eat to Live Better program with Save the Children Mexico

Location: Mexico City

Working to improve lives
The Eat to Live Better program promotes healthy eating habits, physical activity and proper hygiene among low-income children through a network of community centers.

How Kraft helps makes a difference
Kraft helped fund the launch of Eat to Live Better to teach educators about nutrition and healthy lifestyles. The teachers, in turn, bring the lessons to children and parents across Mexico City.

Real-life results
Lucrecia Rosa Hernandez, a teacher, had gained weight over 20 years of married life. Eventually, she weighed 250 pounds. After participating in the Eat to Live Better program, she began eating a wider variety of foods, especially fruits and vegetables. She also started walking 30 minutes every day.

She has lost 40 pounds so far and plans to lose more. And just as important to this dedicated teacher, she demonstrated to her students the importance of proper nutrition and exercise for leading a healthy life.

“It’s unbelievable and wonderful. They’ve seen me lose the weight. And they’re glad I can sit and play with them again!”
