Sustainability Focus Areas

Improving the Environment, Improving Lives

The environmental, social and economic factors of sustainability are deeply linked. By working with our partners at Rainforest Alliance we are helping coffee farmers find better, more environmentally-friendly ways to grow coffee, helping build decent incomes for farmers, building a source of sustainably-farmed quality coffee for Kraft and improving local ecosystems. When we find ways to use less packaging, we can cut greenhouse gas emissions, use less energy, reduce waste going to landfills and save money. All of these changes have positive impacts, locally and globally.

To help prioritize our sustainability activities, we are focusing on six areas where we can have the greatest impact and that have the greatest impact on our business: agricultural commodities, transportation & distribution, water, waste, packaging and energy.

We have created a framework that builds sustainability into the beginning or design of a project. We are including sustainability in our processes, creating sustainability tools for employees and putting systems in place to measure and reward improvement. We are also continually improving our efforts throughout our entire system - from farm to fork.
