Madison, Wisc. (August 3, 2005) – The brown bag routine will be anything but routine this year now that Lunchables lunch combinations are better than ever. The people who make Lunchables are working to reduce fat, saturated fat, sodium and calories across the entire line of products as part of the company's ongoing commitment to help people eat and live better.
"As many parents know, it can be a struggle to get children to eat right . Nutritious lunchtime options don't have to be boring or bland," says Kraft Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian, Sandy Morreale. "That's why we're taking steps to make Lunchables products better for kids so they'll be a lunchtime option both moms and kids can love."
Sensible Lunchtime Options For Back to School
Five Lunchables products meet Kraft's new Sensible Solution™ criteria. Sensible Solution is a new Kraft program providing consumers with an easy way to make more informed choices about the nutritional differences among the foods and beverages they buy. In order to carry the Sensible Solution logo, a Kraft product must meet specific nutrition criteria, identifying that product as a "better-for-you" choice.
Not only are the people at Lunchables introducing new, better for you varieties under the Sensible Solution program, but some of kids' favorite lunchtime foods have been improved to meet these higher nutritional standards.
Look for these five Lunchables products that display the Kraft Sensible Solution logo:
- Chicken Shake-Ups™, BBQ and Nacho Cheese varieties, which let kids spice up lunchtime by shaking fun flavors on to pre-cooked white meat chicken nuggets. Chicken Shake-Ups are a fun and sensible choice with 210 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 2 grams of saturated fat. They also provide an excellent source of protein and Vitamin C.
- IMPROVED Pizza, Extra Cheesy and Pepperoni Flavored Sausage varieties, both of which provide a good source of protein, an excellent source of calcium and come with 100% fruit juice. Extra Cheesy Pizza now contains 30 percent less fat, 43 percent less saturated fat and 11 percent less sodium; and the Pepperoni Flavored Sausage pizza has 18 percent less fat, 28 percent less saturated fat and 10 percent less sodium.
- Chicken Dunks™ pre-cooked nuggets are made with white meat chicken and provide an excellent source of protein. Packed with 100% fruit juice, Chicken Dunks have 310 calories, 6 grams of fat and 2 grams of saturated fat.
"Lunchtime is one of the highlights of the school day, so it's important to pack something kids will like and want to eat," says Morreale. "To help moms be the lunchtime hero by balancing taste, convenience and nutrition, we will continue to take steps to make Lunchables better choices for mom and her children by continuing to increase the number of choices that meet Sensible Solution guidelines."
The five Lunchables products that meet Kraft's Sensible Solution criteria, including Chicken Shake-Ups, Chicken Dunks and nutritionally improved Extra Cheesy and Pepperoni Flavored Sausage Pizzas, are all available now at a suggested retail price of $2.59.
