New LiveActive Cottage Cheese with Prebiotic Fiber Promotes Digestive Health

GLENVIEW, Ill. (April 19, 2007) - Getting that daily dose of fiber just got easier! Kraft is introducing Breakstone’s & Knudsen LiveActive ('liv-'ak-tiv) Cottage Cheese for Digestive Health with prebiotic fiber to help Americans meet their daily fiber goals and help naturally regulate their digestive systems.

A recent “Digestive News” survey conducted by Kraft Foods found that Americans know they need to incorporate more fiber into their diet, but more than 75 percent of those surveyed find it challenging to do so.1 For the 60 percent of Americans that report suffering from digestive health issues, new LiveActive Cottage Cheese with prebiotic fiber is a convenient and delicious way to help maintain a healthy digestive system.2

What is Prebiotic Fiber?

Prebiotics are often non-digestible fibers that serve as a food source for good bacteria (called probiotics) in the gut. The balance of good bacteria in the gut may help keep the digestive tract running smoothly and may help support the body’s natural defenses.

Although consuming prebiotics may be a new concept for many Americans – 78 percent declare they are unfamiliar with the term – these fibers are important to helping ward off bad bacteria and infections. The prebiotic fiber in cottage cheese is inulin, a natural substance derived from sources like chicory root. What’s more, LiveActive Cottage Cheese provides more of the fiber and none of the added sugar found in yogurt.

Digest This!

Studies show the average American consumes 14 to 15 grams of fiber per day, far short of the recommended 20 to 35 grams.4 Each great-tasting, lowfat 4 oz. serving of LiveActive Cottage Cheese contains 3 grams of dietary fiber; it’s something that can be consumed every day to help keep the digestive system happy.

“Maintaining a healthy digestive system is essential to a person’s health and well-being,” says Jason Hecker, brand manager for cottage cheese at Kraft. “Kraft is dedicated to meeting the growing demand for nutritional benefits in food products, and LiveActive Cottage Cheese is just one example of how we are working to provide healthier options for our consumers.”

LiveActive Cottage Cheese is the first of several digestive health products Kraft plans to launch this year. LiveActive Cottage Cheese is available in the refrigerated section of major supermarkets nationwide.
