Choose the Green Flag for Sensible Summer Eating

Kraft Sensible Solution Helps Families Make Better Dietary Choices

NORTHFIELD, IL – (June 19, 2007) – Summer is vacation season, but it's no time to take a break from good eating habits. Time-pressed families can turn to the green Sensible Solution flag on their favorite Kraft products to quickly select better-for-you foods for every summer occasion – from road trips to ball games to barbecues.

"Studying nutrition information at the grocery store can be confusing and time-consuming," says Carol Altomare, registered dietitian at Kraft Foods. "Kraft's more than 500 Sensible Solution products make it easy for families to find better-for-you foods they love while on-the-go this summer."

Quick Tips for Sensible Summer Eating
To help busy families maintain healthy eating habits this summer, Kraft offers these Sensible summer tips for eating and living better:

Eating Well While On the Go

  • Americans will use their automobiles for eight out of 10 trips this summer1 , but making wise roadside food choices can sometimes be a challenge. Rather than dealing with hunger at the nearest off-ramp, bring along convenient snacks and mini-meals. Consider foods such as Planter's NUT-rition Energy Mix and whole wheat Triscuit crackers to help satisfy hunger.
  • Packing up the kids for a road trip or summer day camp? Send them off with kid-friendly snacks like Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs; pack insulated lunch bags with a freezer pack and their favorite flavor of Jell-O Fruit Passions with real fruit pieces; or try Low-Fat Honey Maid Grahams to keep their hunger at bay. For portable lunches, enjoy sandwiches on whole grain bread with Oscar Mayer Shaved Smoked Turkey Breast with Kraft Free Singles and the kids' favorite veggies. Pair up sandwiches with a better-for-you drink like Capri Sun Roarin' Waters.
  • If the family enjoys the outdoors, take breaks to stay hydrated while in the heat. Delicious on-the-go beverage options from Kraft like Crystal Light White Tea Blueberry and Fruit2O Berry Pomegranate are thirst-quenching and fortified with antioxidants and essential nutrients.

Sensible Summer Ideas

  • A day of summer fun should start with a nutritious breakfast. Wholesome, portable breakfast options like Post Honey Bunches of Oats cereal bars made with whole grain can jumpstart the day. Enjoy them with a glass of low-fat milk and a piece of fruit.
  • Headed to a backyard barbecue? Bring a better-for-you dish to share. Visit KraftSensibleSolution.com for quick and easy summer recipes like Grilled Rainbow Chicken Kabobs, Spinach and Orange Salad and Flat Bottom Fruit Pie.
  • Keep a variety of prepared vegetables on hand, such as red or green pepper strips, celery sticks and baby carrots. They are great to use as quick snacks or to toss into a salad.
  • Prepare a quick summer dessert with Jell-O Sugar Free Gelatin combinations! Add strawberries, blueberries and raspberries to cubes of prepared sugar free Jell-O and top with Cool Whip Lite for a refreshing, better-for-you treat that is sure to please.
