Power your Pucker with Kool-Aid Pickles

June 25, 2007 -- A sensation that began in the South has made its way to the Midwest and landed at kraftfoods.com. It's the recipe for the Kool-Aid Pickle – one part sweet, one part crunchy and 10 parts pucker!

Kool-Aid soft drink mix is partnering with Claussen pickles to introduce the entire country to this tangy new taste – just in time for palate-pleasin' at picnics and barbecues. It's already caused a commotion in the Mississippi Delta region, where children and adults alike are soaking their pickles – Claussen pickles, we hope – in fabulous flavors of Kool-Aid. Cherry and strawberry are favorites because they're delicious and for the fantastic color that results. But, consumers should feel free to experiment to find the flavor that powers their pucker. Here's how to make your own (or go to www.kraftfoods.com, where you'll also find nutrition information and other tips for enjoying Kool-Aid Pickles):

KOOL-AID Pickles

Prep: 10 minutes
Total: 24 hours 10 min. (incl. marinating)

1   cup sugar
1   envelope (0.13 oz.) Kool-Aid Cherry Flavor Unsweetened Soft Drink Mix
1   qt. (4 cups) water
1   jar (32 oz.) Claussen Kosher Dill Pickle Halves, drained

Stir sugar, drink mix and water in 48-oz. glass or plastic jar or storage container with lid until drink mix is dissolved.
Add pickles, arranging so that cut sides are completely covered with liquid; cover tightly.
Refrigerate at least 24 hours. To serve, remove pickles from jar and cut in half.
Makes 20 servings, one pickle half each.

Substitute: Prepare as directed, using your favorite flavor of Kool-Aid Unsweetened Soft Drink Mix.
Food Fact: You can store pickles in Kool-Aid mixture in refrigerator up to 1 week.
