Tassimo and Stabucks Send a Wake-up Call to the Single-Serve Category

TARRYTOWN, NY, December 4, 2007 – Mornings are looking up. TASSIMO, the hot beverage system that delivers a diverse assortment of coffeehouse-quality beverages at home, will soon provide a variety of Starbucks® coffee T DISC blends through single-serve convenience.

TASSIMO has added four Starbucks® coffee varieties to its collection: Breakfast Blend, House Blend, Caffè Verona® and Africa Kitamu™. Sourced from the world’s most distinctive coffee growing regions, ranging from Latin America to Africa, these coffees showcase the unique, rich flavors of their origins. The care and quality that is offered in each cup of Starbucks® coffee, the best selling super-premium coffee in the United States, will now be available in the comfort and convenience of the consumer’s home all at the touch of a button through TASSIMO.

“This collaboration represents a significant milestone for TASSIMO and the single-serve industry,” said Lorraine Hansen, Senior Vice President and General Manager, US Coffee, Kraft Foods. “TASSIMO is excited to add offerings from Starbucks, a brand that is synonymous with super-premium quality coffee, to our portfolio of hot beverages. We continue to make it a priority to offer our consumers even more opportunities to enjoy premium brands and varieties at home.”

The alliance between TASSIMO and Starbucks® was announced in September. Other Starbucks Coffee Company brands already available in T DISC form include Seattle’s Best Coffee® and Tazo® tea.

“We recognize that the single-serve category is growing, and the relationship with TASSIMO was a natural fit. Single serve innovation now allows consumers to prepare and enjoy a perfectly brewed cup of Starbucks® coffee at home one cup at a time. The Starbucks® coffee T DISCs offer the correct proportion of coffee to water – an essential part of the Starbucks brewing philosophy,” said Wendy Piñero, Vice President of Consumer Products, Starbucks Coffee Company. “Delivering a perfect cup of coffee is at the core of what we do as a company.”

Just in time for the holidays, four distinctive blends of Starbucks® coffee T DISCs will be available at select retailers, as well as online at www.TASSIMOdirect.com.

TASSIMO freshly brews a wide variety of hot beverages, including coffees, cappuccinos/lattes, teas and hot chocolate, at the touch of a button. TASSIMO has two key components: the TASSIMO brewing machine and proprietary T DISCs. Through the TASSIMO smart technology, developed and designed by Kraft Foods, the machine’s microprocessor reads the bar code printed on the T DISC label and automatically calculates the correct water amount, temperature and brewing time. All of the brewing happens inside the T DISC, which contains a precisely measured amount of coffee, tea, chocolate or real milk creamer and is sealed to protect the flavor inside. Most beverages are ready in about a minute.
